the new album
Sunday February 24th we will release our new album A Gentle Sting in the small hall of Paradiso. We will make that a very special evening. We can only do so if you are there aswell, we would really love to see you! Tickets are available now!
On December 11th The Golden Age will start airing on Dutch national television. In the 13 episodes of the documentary series (NTR/VPRO) historian Hans Goedkoop will travel all over the world to find the roots of Dutch society, that started in the 17th century. Touching on art, trade, geography, prosperity, science, everything! A huge project and accomplishment. The series is backed by a comical historical series for kids, two websites, a book and an exhibition in the Amsterdam Museum. The music is composed and produced by Ruud. Marco and Mike can also be heard. You can find it on iTunes. The series will also be released on DVD.
Saturday december 1st, we’ll be playing a Live In Your Living Room – show for a small gathering on a lovely location in Amsterdam. We’ve heard there will be guests all the way from Sweden! There are no more tickets, sorry.
We are currently planning the release of the new album. It looks it will be somewhere around February 24th (Paradiso Amsterdam). We are also working on shows in February and March. Options so far, Feb 24 Paradiso Amsterdam, March 7 Mezz Breda, March 24 Gigant Apeldoorn. We will keep you posted. If you are in the heart of Amsterdam on Dec 1st, you are welcome at a small Living Room show.(for tickets, use the calendar)
Thursday October 25th Cloudmachine will play an evening at the Parktheater in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. This is always a special place for us. A small theatre usually filled with people that are close to us. We haven’t been playing for a while due to finishing the new record. This evening we will play all the new songs for the first time. We are very much looking forward to this.
On August 8th Mike Marsh mastered the new album in London at The Exchange Mastering. Mike is known for his work on classic albums for artists such as Massive Attack, Prodigy, Björk, Oasis and Depeche Mode. It was a fun day and we are most happy with the result. Mike complimented Tristan on the excellent mixes and was foot tapping all day while doing his magic.
Here’s the video for single Stone In The River. If you listen hard you may hear Jon Allen join in with the backing vocals.
New single Stone In The River now available on iTunes Music Store. (Netherlands & Belgium only)
The new album A Gentle Sting will be released after summer. But at the end of May a single will be released titled Stone In The River. The album was produced by Tristan Longworth, who also produced albums for Jon Allen. Allen appears on A Gentle Sting aswell singing harmonies. Here you can check out a little preview:
A little update. The new album is all done. Well almost.. one very special detail needs to be done and we still need to do the mastering which we will also do in London. Our drummer Mike Coolen is still touring with Within Temptation until april. But we won’t sit still. Before that we will release at least a first single of the new record we won’t keep you waiting much longer. We are very proud British singer songwriter Jon Allen helped us with the backing vocals. We hope to schedule the release soon. Will keep you posted!
In the mean time Ruud is working on the music for a 13 episodes of 40 minutes each, documentary series for Dutch national television that will be broadcasted starting in January 2013. It’s beautiful view on the Dutch Golden Age, in the 17th century. Cloudmachine buddy Marco will help out on the keys.
At the moment the new album is being mixed. By the end of October it will be nearing it’s final stages. We have things planned, photo shoots, working on the artwork concept that will be adapted for album, website, posters etc. While Mike is on world tour with Within Temptation we’ll do an occasional acoustic show. And prepare for the album release.
Last week Ruud came back from 10 days in the UK with 8 days of hard labour tracking vocals and a few remaining guitar bits for the new album. Now, what is left is another 3 days that will be scheduled soon to record the last few vocals and backing vocals. Hopefully with some special guests. Then the mixing will start!
Allright, a little update. Since July 6th (only 4 weeks but seems ages ago) we have recorded the greater part of our new record with our producer Tristan Longworth (Jon Allen). Tristan crossed the channel first to record Mike and Ray and the string players at Studio Zeezicht near Haarlem. Ruud and Marco crossed the channel to England, once to record Ruud’s guitar parts and Marco on Wurlitzer. And a week after that, we went again with Richard to record his guitars, piano, accordeon and Hammond. Now we have a little break. It’s been hard work but we are very happy with the results. Ruud will go back soon to record vocals and the last few bits. We’ll keep you posted.
At the moment we are working on a new record. Rehearsals are full on and we just met our producer/engineer last week to plan production. We will record drums and bass starting June 16th in Haarlem, and the other tracking and all mixing will be done in the UK. We have no release date yet. We hope it will be late fall 2011. Here is a live version of one of the new songs from a try out.
Wednesday march 23rd we’ll be openening for The Boxer Rebellion in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Hope to see you there!
Harrie Geelen crafted this video spontaneously after hearing our version of Old Waits Carol that we recorded for a compilation CD filled with obscure Christmas classics (see below). It is a British traditional dated between 1600-1800 also known as ‘The Moon Shines Bright’ and ‘The Bellman’s Song’. Douglas Brice, in The Folk Carol of England, describes this song as a “carolite” sung by town folk as a kind of “luck-visit.” He writes that a copy of the song, with the good wishes of the Town Crier inscribed, would be pushed under the front door by visitors — who would return later to collect a Christmas offering for the bellman or night watch-man.
We were asked to contribute a track to a wonderful Christmas compilation album put together by Oscar Smit. A CD filled with lesser known Christmas classics covered by (mostly) Dutch artists. Some original tracks are added too. We picked Old Waits Carol, a British folk traditional dated between 1600-1800 that is known by various names, among which The Moon Shines Bright. The album can be purchased through Bol.com and on iTunes.
We have been doing some great shows lately. Meeting new people while we opened for Danish star Tim Christensen was a lot of fun. November 24th we’ll be playing an intimate double gig with Point Quiet in Rotterdam, only 35 seats. Please come!
